An interesting trend has started recently that I didn't really take notice of until yesterday morning. For months now, I have noticed the wardrobe of the female OCMs has been more casual than business like (with only Kim Perez seeming to remain tied to business suits and the like.) Skirts and semi-low cut blouses have become rather common place, but then it wasn't anything to really take notice of. The conspiracy theorist in us didn't have enough to go on to say that the Weather Channel was adopting the Fox News ideology of "more flesh = more ratings." Until the last two days that is.
On Monday and Tuesday, Stephanie Abrams, who hosts possibly the most popular show on the Weather Channel by sheer necessity (since most people do still tune into the Weather Channel in the mornings, at least for a few minutes, to grab a quick forecast) had a bit of a revealing choice in wardrobe. Is it a coincidence that she has been hiking up her hem line as more and more criticism came into the Weather Channel?
On Monday, her outfit's skirt was exceptionally short, coming well above the knee. It was short enough that one fan of the female OCMs on another board simply said "WOW!" in response to it. I saw the clips, and I agreed that it was shorter than usual, but perhaps it was just a one time thing.
Yesterday morning, the outfit Stephanie had on had an even shorter skirt (one that was short enough to be show off leg even while she was standing behind the banner at the bottom of the screen...it has been quite some time since anyone wore an outfit like that on TWC.)
So, is it possible that the Weather Channel, either by rule (such as the one at Fox News which dictates the length of skirts its female anchors can wear) or by implication (the old adage "sex sells"), that the female OCMs, or at least a few of them, have taken to wearing subtly sexier clothing in an attempt to turn the Weather Channel's fortunes around? Or is this simply a matter of new ownership allowing them to be more open with their wardrobes and we are seeing a sexier side to a few of the female meteorologists?
